LTMS Green Bean

This week I’ve been working on a new Green Bean, one that documents some of the process of working on Lighter Than My Shadow.

I’m thinking a lot, and thinking hard about my work at the moment. For the last 12 years, Lighter Than My Shadow has been my focus, not only as an illustrator but in life, the universe and everything. Now it’s over and I have questions. They start with ‘What’s next?’, but they’re bigger. Why am I an artist? What am I trying to say? What do I really value, and what do I want at the centre of my work?

Needless to say, finishing a 12 year project is quite a moment, and perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised to find myself reeling. It’s weird. It’s hard. But it feels like this questioning is important.

This zine contains some of the most honest work I’ve ever done, apart from what’s contained in Lighter Than My Shadow itself. I think it’s the best Green Bean I’ve ever made, and in that I feel perhaps I’ve started to answer some of my questions.

(This new issue of The Green Bean should be ready very soon, in time for the Bristol Artists’ Book Event (BABE) at Arnolfini next weekend.)
