Feel the wind in your hair/fur. πŸƒ Video description: Jack is sitting on Dartmoor in his bright yellow coat, and the wind is whipping his eyebrows and moustache about the place. Towards the end of the clip he licks his lips (he's after a treat).
In case you're also waking up to a government you did not vote for, come join us for a quiet walk on Dartmoor... . I don't talk about politics often because frankly the last few years have left me speechless. Ever since the UK voted for Brexit I've felt like I must have stepped into a parallel universe (let's not even mention happenings on the other side of a certain pond). But the time for denial is over. It's not a joke. We have to use our voices and our privilege to stand up for each other and for the most vulnerable in our society, because our government won't. If you're despairing this morning, please know you're not alone.
Even if you're feeling despondent or hopeless. Especially if you're feeling despondent or hopeless. Please. . Image description: my left hand holding a scratch board piece, which shows the word VOTE in decorative lettering made from twigs and brambles. I'm holding it up against a background of moss and ferns. #vote #votevotevote
Tiny Dartmoor Landscapes. πŸ’š #lichenfancier #mossadmirer #fungusfancier Image description: a selection of photos featuring a diversity of mosses, lichens, fungi, grasses and rocks photographed on one short walk on Dartmoor. I love how they look like forests in miniature.
A rare glimpse of the behind-the-scenes hero of The Green Bean Podcast. πŸŒ„ Image description: a low December sun is peeking through the clouds over Dartmoor, with the river and rocks catching its light. A man in an orange coat is crouching, attending to a camera and capturing footage for episode 19 which is coming soon.
❀️ . Image description: Jack and I sharing a joyful cuddle and kiss, with the lights of our Christmas tree just visible behind us.
Tis officially the season. While eating the first batch of mince pies this morning I'm preparing for the Woolly Winter Wonderland tomorrow, December 6th, at @woolontheexe. . I'll be bringing a selection of goodies from my shop to sell alongside @catandsparrowuk @lilypondyarns and Spinderella. I hear there are going to be festive treats of all kinds from 4-8pm. Hope to see you there!
Finish your spring knits in December? Model your spring knits in December πŸ₯Ά . Image description: A snatched moment on Dartmoor, in which I have removed hat, shawl, jumper, coat and gloves to show off my seasonally inappropriate top. It's a reddish pink crew neck t shirt with geometric lace design on the front and back. I love the finishing details best: turned up hems on the sleeves and folded neckline finished with crochet. For once, I followed the pattern with no modifications! Design: Ginkgophyte by @emilygreeneknits from @pompommag Yarn: Cocktails by @jarbontextiles in Strawberry Daiquiri
I am still completely enamoured with the grumpy rainbow I dyed in the workshop @riverknitsuk on Sunday! . Becci and Markus will be hosting more of these workshops in the new year, sign up to their newsletter to be the first to hear when. It was such a joyous day of colour and I learned so much. I can't recommend it highly enough! . Image description: a rainbow of twelve mini skeins dyed on bluefaced leicester. I've named the colours as follows, from the front: Dismal Raspberry Moody Marmalade Dirty Honey Grumpy Mustard Murky Moss Gloomy Grass Clouded Emerald Shady Jade Dreary Teal Cranky Ink Dingy Aubergine Glum Plum
πŸŒˆπŸ§™β€β™‚οΈ . Photo by @riverknitsuk . Image description: I am holding up twelve freshly dyed mini skeins to my nose. The delight of creating these colours from beakers, syringes and (slightly squiffy) maths is showing in my eyes. Arranged in rainbow order, the loose skeins look like a magical beard of joy.
My weekend was pretty great, how was yours? 🌈🌈🌈 . I had the privilege of attending a mini skein dyeing workshop at @riverknitsuk studio, and it was so much fun! Although, it did make me painfully aware how my mathematics skills have gone extremely rusty 🀯 . Image description: I am standing at a dyepot, smiling in delight as I pull out a freshly dyed mini skein. Laid out on the table in front of me is my day's work, a muddy dirty grumpy muted very Katie rainbow. Thanks @faydhdesigns for capturing my joy and Becci and Markus for the most wonderful day!
Gathering inspiration for the next Green Bean Zine.... #lichenfancier . Image description: four images showing a diverse array of colours and textures of lichen, photographed on a wet and windy Dartmoor this morning.
