This weekend past I attended Bristol Artists’ Book Event (BABE) for the first time. This amazing biennial event gathers artists, self-publishers and book makers from Bristol and all over the world to exhibit and sell their creations. The weather was finally spring-like, and so it was lovely to be out of the studio, meeting people and sharing my work again after a long break from these kinds of events.
I was lucky enough to have a table next to Katriona Chapman, and to witness how quickly the new anthology she’s been involved with editing flew off the ‘shelves’. Tiny Pencil is a gorgeous collection of artwork created exclusively in pencil, and Issue 1 features 64 pages of art by 27 different artists on the theme of forests. The work is gorgeous and the magazine smells divine (if you are a print lover like me, you will know what I mean). It is officially published this Saturday, April 27th, but you can pre-order a copy on the website, here.
Apart from the smell of Tiny Pencil and the fun of taking my work out into the world again, my favourite part of the weekend was that BABE served exhibitors free tea and homemade cakes from a trolley that circulated the fair twice a day. I’ve never felt so well fed or looked after as a stallholder!
